今天（12月26日），广州地铁三号线首通段（广州东站–客村）和四号线大学城专线（试验性工段，万胜围–新造）正式开通，并于14时向市民开放。
下午3：40左右，本报记者正在地铁4号线大学城北亭站（往万胜围方向）站台等待列车，忽然有几名工作人员不断使用手中无线对讲机对话，一面在站点沿线来回巡查。细听才知道，原来他们接到消息说该站某处屏蔽门被人恶意破坏了。经过仔细观察，终于在往万胜围方向的远端数起第3个屏蔽门旁边发现了受破坏的痕迹，比较明显地是用小刀之类的利器划花的，而且还是在闭路电视监控系统下方！地铁才开通1个多小时，就有一些不讲公德的市民蓄意破坏公物。可耻可叹！
众多市民在下午如潮水般涌向新地铁线“尝鲜”。记者17：25在3号线体育西路站更见证了列车靠站时，门外站了六七层等待进入列车的乘客！顿时塞满了整个车厢，列车更是在体育西路站逗留了接近5分钟才离站。在珠江新城站，列车车门连续3次在关闭后重新打开，乘客们纳闷与埋怨之际，广播声音传来：“由于地铁车厢内过于挤逼，请错把报警按钮当扶手的乘客迅速松开，否则列车无法开动！”
地铁3、4号线增添了不少新设施，如闪灯式车站地图报站装置、高清晰LCD小电视、防逃票报警系统、应急按钮、自助充值机等等。总体感觉良好。不过3号线的速度在感觉上没有传说中的快，而且部分新站点的上盖依然是荒凉之地！而且由于地铁造车速度目前依然比不上建设速度，3号线目前仅有3列车投入运营，4号线仅1列上线运行，因此行车间隔时间较长，等待时间也相对较长，需要10分钟或以上。

地铁4号线北亭站位于大学城北区综合商业服务中心，在中山大学与星海音乐学院之间，方便了大学城师生进出广州市区。
地铁3号线已开通的区段位于广州城市新中轴线上。
林和西站色调为橘红色，充满活力。上盖为林和西路、天河北路，乃广州高级写字楼云集的地方，如中信广场、市长大厦、广州国际贸易中心、大都会广场等等。
珠江新城是广州未来新城市中心商务区。宝蓝色的珠江新城站，环境宽敞，赏心悦目。
空中走廊设计的赤岗塔站，乃是为观光需要而建的地铁站。该站还预留将来直通广州新电视中心观光塔的观光隧道出入口，届时可成为市民游客旅游观光的新景点。不过，该站点实在建得偏僻。据今天《新快报》报道：昨天下午2时，记者来到赤岗塔附近的艺苑路，可是走完了整条马路，都没能找到一个指示赤岗塔站去向的指示牌。无奈，记者只好沿途问路，一连问了4位附近居民，都没有人知道地铁站的具体位置。最后，一位店主给记者指了一个“可能大概”的方向，记者尝试着从艺苑路口转入一条巷子，走过约100米尘土飞扬的土路，再穿过一个红色大铁门，在一片空旷的工地旁，终于找到了隐藏在树丛后面的地铁入口——那感觉真像打“地道战”。
