广州东山区检察院近日以证据不足为由，对前《南方都市报》兼北京新京报总编辑程益中下达不起诉决定书。程益中被指利用职务便利贪污10万元人民币，于今年3月19日被刑事拘留，4月1日被正式逮捕。但有报道称，他所得的10万元为《南方都市报》2000年度提取的税后奖金总额605万元的一部分。去年“两会”期间，《南方都市报》未得广东省委宣传部同意，揭露广东省的萨斯疫情；而后，该报又率先报道湖北大学生孙志刚在广州因没带暂住证出街在收容所被打死的事件，从而导致该报的两名高层喻华峰及李民英相继被捕，并被分别判处8年和6年徒刑。“南都案”引起《纽约时报》等国际传媒、“无疆界记者”等国际组织以及广东政坛元老任仲夷、国家主席胡锦涛等领导人的关注。报道称，估计这对程益中的获释起了关键作用。
